Apparently French women have this amazing capacity to remain skinny. I have been told this several times. Well, I am afraid that’s just another unfounded myth.
I normally don’t do reviews on this blog, but today will be an exception. The thing is, when I came back from Bali, all this coconut milk and amazing food had taken its toll. I simply needed to loose some weight. I am not obese, I was simply fatter and felt that I had to do something.

But I don’t do diets -I find them boring, and I always end up putting the weight back on anyway. I love good food. I bake my own bread. You see, good bread is notoriously difficult to find in London, it usually tastes like the plastic bag it is wrapped in. I live for olive oil, chocolate, tiramisu and pasta. I try to exercise a lot to burn the calories. I love running. But I needed something more this time. A little help.

So, when I received a PR agency request from the lovely Sasha to review the Thinking Slimmer Slimpod (http://thinkingslimmer.com/ ), I thought that, after all, I had only weight to loose. I decided to give it a go. To be frank, I was a bit skeptical at first. How can this work? How is this even possible?

Well, all you have to do is spend 10 mins every day listening to your Slimpod. I usually do this in the evening. It is all about positive thinking, and making changes at your own pace in your eating habits.
The unexpected benefit of the approach is that I often am sound asleep by the end of the Slimpod, and, as a result, my quality of sleep has greatly improved. In 3 weeks, I have lost a bit more than 2 kgs, or 5 lbs. I have noticed some little changes too: no sugar in my yogurt or my morning’s lemon juice. Less sugary snacks as well. All in all, I am more relaxed despite the fact that I stopped being employed and am running my own business. In short, I am simply more confident and I am not using food to reassure myself, which is unexpected. Maybe life is easier that I thought?

Me being me, I want to continue and loose more weight. Why do I keep wanting more?
Maybe because I am on my way to the new me.

I was given a free Slimpod but wasn’t paid for this post. The opinion in this post is therefore my own!
Muriel – A French Yummy Mummy In London
  • Yes, it is a very convenient myth that French women don’t get fat but somehow manage to eat tons of gorgeous French food! Most Frenchwomen I know – and British ones who live in France – have iron determination to turn down desserts, or eat only a sliver of cheese very slowly, and ask for sauces on the side to be tasted but not sloshed over their food, and plenty of other excellent tactics. I could learn a lot from them…!

It’s also so true that we lose weight effectively when we are really motivated to do so, and feeling positive. Hope it carries on well for you.

  • How nice, I have heard a lot of twitter buzz about this!
Glad it’s working to both lose weight and relax

  • Congratulations. When I’m in France I don’t see French women eliminating all treats, but they make better choices than in the US. My French female friend, has bread only at breakfast, eats nothing greasy, and eats little between meals — and she cooks healthy meals at night. It’s a mindset I just can achieve. But I don’t give up trying. And, yes, a positive attitude is as important as the diet.

  • Mon dieu, Muriel, once again you’ve burst my bubble — first the madder-than-a-hatter big-nosed French actor, now this. Non!

  • @ Deborah – Thanks! I love food and I am not ashamed of it…I think that I was stress eating because of my job. I feel much better now…

  • @ Julie – I have come to the conclusion that it is more important to be happy than to be skinny!

  • @ Cathy – Soooo sorry to have burst your bubble! How are things in Canada?

  • @ WorkingLondonMummy – How are you? When is the baby due?

  • Well, Muriel, you look wonderful to me
But I’m glad to hear this worked out!
Anyway, there can’t be anything wrong with positive thinking and self actualization!

  • This sounds good! I think sometimes it is not so much about how we look but how we feel, and loosing a bit or having a more healthy diet can help on both physical and psychological.
This said I should try it on!!

  • Well done Muriel! Well done for quitting your job, well done for losing weight, and well done for sleeping better! I think there are probably ways you are saving money by not working outside your home also (another post?!) Great work friend.

  • @ Stacey – You are sooo sweet! If you could talk to my scale it would be great.

  • @ MarieHarmonie – It is a chicken and egg situation, isn’t it? When I am happy I lose weight easily. I hope that I am on a positive trend now!!!

  • @ Elizabeth – Thank you! You are right, I am spending a lot less money since I stopped being employed. Without noticing it. that’s great, isn’t it?

  • That is an interesting concept. I hate diets as well because I end up gorging myself on everything you “can’t” have simply because…. you can’t have it! Good Luck!

  • Aren’t gadgets fun? I’m a sure fire truer of any kind of technology. :D. And the bottom line is, if it works, go for it.
